Configuring Octopress

In the last post I talked about how to deploy octopress on github with your custom domain, but it needs a bit of configuration to be the way I like it. You can find more info about that in Octopress configuration, but if you want to know which steps I followed, open the _config.yml file and modify these lines:

...
permalink: /:year/:month/:day/:title/
...
category_dir: categories
...
paginate: 5
pagination_dir:   # It's blank because I don't want /blog before each link page

I found a post about SEO for Octopress websites which explains why and how to remove the redundant /blog prefix, so I followed it :).

After that, there is a section with 3rd party settings for different social networks and services. I think they are self-explanatory, so I'll just give a few tips:

• Octopress is a static blog, so if you want comments, you need to use something like Disqus. It's easy (and free!) to create an account, so visit disqus website and fill your id on _config.yml.
